For what it's worth, the 'chronology' of the Standard's registration, CY 8872, indicates that it was first registered in Ceylon in late 1947 or early 1948. Because of the 'juggling' of shots following Vivien Leigh's sudden departure from Ceylon mid-production, resulting in the substitution of Elizabeth Taylor as the female lead actor (see my comments accompanying '1941 Chevrolet Suburban wagon' in this listing), it is possible that in the two shots of the Standard Eight with scenic backgrounds, filmed in Ceylon, Vivien Leigh is seen. But in the tight profile view, probably shot on a Hollywood set, Liz Taylor is in the car. This suggests that for the Hollywood shots with Taylor, either (a) the Standard was taken from Ceylon to the USA (probably unlikely, although not impossible), or (b) a similar Standard Eight tourer was obtained locally and used as a 'double'. |

^ interesting that our only other 4/8A occurs in a film shot in Los Angeles, and is a Tourer .... |

They would have shipped all their cameras and lighting, etc. from Los Angeles to Ceylon and back anyway, so bringing a little car too would not have been difficult. |

Good point, 'dsl'. Could it be the same USA-domiciled car used in both 'The Man from Planet X' and the Hollywood shots in 'Elephant Walk'? Both appear to be right-hand-drive too. 'Interesting' indeed! |
