It's the 1938 to 1949 variety of Jaguar. What is under the bonnet is not discernible from the picture, and the wheels are too small and the tyres too fat, but probably make it more of a driver's car than the original equipment. |

I've called it 1946+ 2½ Litre [Mk.IV] as a safe option to clear from unknown. Looks like a fairly massive grille surround in thumb - anyone want to go for 3½ Litre??? |

It is a point of interest that the two cars in the picture could have had the same engine. The 20hp version of the Standard, 2,663cc side valve, became the 2 1/2 litre Jaguar engine with the addition of an OHV cylinder head designed by Weslake and Heynes. |

There are two different cars The early episode had a 3 1/2 Mk IV with 16"chrome wire wheels Later have a 1947 SS Jaguar with original 18"wheels and reg number 172191 This is a 3 1/2 litre and was used in the rather nice sequence at the start of an episode where it appears coming towards the camera from undulations in the road and then is seen cornering vigorously. The tax disc is infact a Northern Ireland one as I had one of the original SS Tax disc holders and that came with the Irish tax disc. The start of the sequence is filmed in Ballarat the end where the car pulls up is in Kew about 60 miles away. |

Yes , It's my car I've had it for about 40 years. It has been tweaked a little. Auscrank 12 counterweight crankshaft. High valve lift rockers, slight up in CR, Ports matched to manifolds, head flowed a little, 1 3/4 "carby bodies and alloy brake drums. The police driver in filming said he was pleasantly surprised at how well it went. |
