There are or were a few left hand drive Internationals in South Africa, so the producers might have found it locally. http://www.sa-transport.co.za/trucks/international.html Note the red LHD International 9670 that looks very like this truck. http://www.sa-transport.co.za/trucks/int/international_pe_1_dc.JPG |

Asked when the truck was identified as a 9670 model: Both abbreviations were use, but only for the International Harvester Company era. Maybe you meant International Harvester vs. International (only)? The 9670 was made from 1981 onwards, and replaced by the 9600 in 1989. So the common answer for it would be International Harvester (Company) from 1981 to 1985, and (Navistar) International after the 1986 renaming. The logo on the door could help: ![]() (00:01:07 - 1986+ logo in the lower part of the door) But this truck has in fact the blinkers of a 1988-96 9700 or of a 1996-99 9800 SBA (Set-Back Axle). All picture of 9800 models I found never showed louvers above the grille, so this one is most likely a 1988+ 9700... _____ @ Gag Halfrunt: from what I saw with pictures comparison (so it's not a certainty, it has to be confirmed), given the shape of the steel footstep, "your" red truck is "younger" than a 9670 and is most likely a 1989-96 9600. Not a 1996-99 9800 SFA (Set-Forward Axle), as this model doesn't seem to have such louvers above the grille, as said just above... -- Last edit: 2015-05-30 21:08:25 |

For information purposes, this copy of International's website from - presumably - 1997 shows a 9800 with vents above the grille. Link to "web.archive.org" |
