Another fake plate - unissued combination from Sutherland. ANS 821B did exist late 1964, but not traceable now. |

There was a "goof" on IMDB about this, saying this "A" plate wouldn't have been issued when the robbery actually took place. |

A suffix plates were issued from 1 Jan 63, so the format is OK; however very few local licensing authorities started suffix series in 63 - most waited until 64 [B] or even 65 [C], and just carried on with the old 123 ABC format for a year or 2. |

This scene was the reenactment of the BOAC Comet House Robbery committed by the "Bowler Hat" Gang at the BOAC Comet House near London Heathrow Airport on the morning of the 27th November 1962. According to the police investigation into the robbery, the robbers had received information that a security van was scheduled to deliver a strongbox containing what was believed to be £400,000 (£10.5 million in today's value) to the BOAC Comet House near Heathrow Airport. On the day of the robbery, three of the robbers, wearing matching business suits and bowler hats with canes, were already in inside of the BOAC Comet House building waiting for the security van carrying the strongbox to arrive. As the robbers were waiting, the van accompanied by a security car with three guards leading from the front and a radio car following the van had left the Barclay's Bank Hatton Cross Branch about 300 yards from the Comet House building and were pulling up outside of the building. The guards then placed the strongbox onto the trolley and begun to wheel it into the Comet House building and over to the lifts. As the lift's doors open, five men in balaclavas armed with pickaxes handles and iron bars jumped and attacked the guards with the three disguised robbers joining in. After attacking the guards, the robbers took the strongbox and placed it into the gang's van and drove off with two Jaguars driving ahead and stopping at a disused gate that opened up onto the A30 Motorway and cutting the chain before driving through and onto the Great West Road towards London. However, when the robbers opened the strongbox, they found box contained £62,500, not the £400,000 as originally thought, leaving a share of £4,000 for each robber. As the robbery was carried out in two minutes, the investigation had concluded that the robbery was planned and carried out with military precision. -- Last edit: 2023-12-01 12:36:15 |
