High spec - 5-spoke alloys, tints, leather seats so a 420 GSi Executive. Not a Sport or Turbo as no rear spoiler. Executive was introduced in Nov 91 (one year before shield grille arrived) and then dropped for 94. |

Would expect a 420 to have a bonnet bulge as the engine didn't fit under the normal bonnet, alloys are non Rover (from something with a round badge, maybe Mazda?). As far as I'm aware no R8 in this period had 5 spoke rims from the factory. Export cars tended to be high spec, so I wouldn't necessarily be surprised to see a 416 or even 414 with leather. -- Last edit: 2023-11-08 01:11:22 |

5-spokers were available on R8 top versions for 2-3 years - I think first appeared on 216 GTi (option) and Twin Cam (standard) from Sept 90, then spread across. But point taken about the bulge - seems all M16 and T16 had it, whether Turbo or non-Turbo. So 416 GSi now my best guess, with full leather as an HK permutation. |

I should have remembered those ones, they were the ones that were supposedly available colour coded on the GTI, by the facelift higher spec ones moved to the 7 spoke ones. Not seen them on a 400 before, but GSI Sport was super uncommon. 420 Executive should have these rims (possibly switching to the 7 spokes late on): https://www.flickr.com/photos/130542797@N07/49925325586/in/photostream/ -- Last edit: 2023-11-08 00:37:49 |
