Plate issued in 1971. Very new car for a P plater to be driving in 1974 - only 3 years old. Maybe it's a mature age P plater? -- Last edit: 2020-09-14 15:58:24 |

I suppose it is no different now to seeing P platers in new Kia, Hyundai, etc. This was just a small economy car at the time! |

Nowadays, things are different. But when I got my P plates in late 1999, no one I knew had a car that was 3 years old or less - the average age of my friend's cars was about 10 years (or 1990 or so). In 2000, my friends had a 1990 Toyota Lexcen, TR Magna, EA Falcon (unsure what year), and one even had a HX Premier. All of these cars were hand-me-downs from their parents, who upgraded to newer cars. A 3 year old car in those days cost a minimum of 15 grand, and no 18 year old had that kind of money to spend, let alone the insurance cost. These days, there's a much greater focus on safety - parents don't want their kids driving old/unsafe cars. -- Last edit: 2020-10-06 09:37:42 |

Very true. Maybe it is child borrowing mum or dads car then! |
