Short for Rettungkraftwagen (= Rescue Vehicle). Usually 'Krankenwagen' in DE? Changed. Sign says 'Malteser Kiel', I guess. |

yes, this is a Krankentransortwagen = KTW colloquial Krankenwagen Link to "bos-fahrzeuge.info" Link to "1zu87.eu" Link to "kbs761.startbilder.de" as tore 40 says name changed to RTW = Rettungswagen , but reserved for the more complexe vehicles were you can treat patients like in a Sprinter while this class of VW today only is used to shutle patients, but not in case of emergency |

Nice finds. Wagen 266 probably didn't last into the digital age. These are too new or too old ... (The T1 is 1964. The last T2 is said to be 1979 in the text.) I first thought Wagen 110 was converted into a Kombi after retirement, but from your comment above, I see it could rather have been a people carrier back then? |

As I have heard, there are differences between a "Krankenwagen" or "Krankentransportwagen" and a "Rettungswagen". AFAIK a Krankenwagen is only for the transport and in a Rettungswagen is a doctor on board. Maybe we have some German members, who had been a "Zivi", so made the alternative service -those, who haven't made the military service, when it was mandatory (until 2011). They may know the details, if they had made their service in a resdue team or in a hospital. |

Andrepa has already stated it quite correctly."Rettungswagen"-ambulance is manned by an emergency physician plus paramedics. |
