I don't think this has enough aerodynamic bits to be a Cosworth, so most likely to be Merkur XR4Ti (homologated with the 2.3 turbo engine as European XR4 too slow). Plain livery suggests not a major team (and definitely not one of the Rouse team cars). |

Because Merkur : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merkur Still, the car was rebadged as a Ford for the BSCC, it's visible on the photos. -- Last edit: 2014-02-22 13:56:38 |

o.k., but a) what is US-specific here? b) not "built in CH"? |

a) the oily bits - 2.3 turbo engine never offered in Europe b) originally built in D for export. Lots of teams used them, mostly based in UK. No idea where Eggenberger prepared their car(s), but for a UK series, a UK base seems most likely (maybe contracted out to a race preparation outfit on a trading estate somewhere in deepest Englandshire). Badged as a Ford for marketing reasons - calling them Merkurs would have no significance for UK audiences and would not allow Ford to capitalise on their successes. |
