Looks like it is RHD, import from Japan, it could be a Toyota Corona Wagon. |

Rear end looks a bit like a early/mid 80's Nissan Bluebird... |

And I would have said "Laurel"... |

The shape of the nose is more "Nissan' to me then Toyota. Filmed in Moscow so could be from any number of countries originally.. I think it is an early 1980's Nissan with some kind of local or homemade round headlamp conversion. |

It seems that this car could be made in the grey market. This vehicle could be a used car from Japan and sold to Russia. I think that they put Russian headlight to meet their requirement. After all, Japan has limited number of years owning the vehicle before they get rid of it by law? Japan is a small island with too many vehicle there. What do you think? |

Yes, that cars was running originally in Japan. You can see it at the mirrors on the fender, too. It was a Japanese law to mount them at that place. @rjluna2: the Japanese law was very strict in the past about the technical inspections, so it was too expensive to hold an older car, because everytime a lot of (often strange und idiotical) works had to be done. But this law was changed some years ago. But never it was forbidden to drive or hold older cars by law. Mostly the Japanese are still a bit strange about cars. If the mileage is over 100 000 km, it's seen as a junk-car. A japanese frind of mine told me, that some Japanese don't want to buy used cars, because of the "spirit" of the former owner. Sometimes every part, the former owner had touched has to be replaced by new ones - which means, that it's stupid and too expensive to buy used cars. But the times have changed. In Japan you can see some dealers, which are offering imported used cars. Sometimes US-cars, but mostly German cars. In 2003 I've visited my friend in Yokohama and he showed me a dealer with used Mercedes, Porsche and BMW, imported from Germany. He was wondering, why the cars are so cheap, compared with the used from the japanese market. "Here you see why" I told him and put my fingers between the (closed) front hood and the front lamps of a 560 SEC. These offered high performance-cars were scrap, rebuilt and repaired crash-cars. Perhaps some chassis-numbers weren't real authentic either. The most used japanese cars are going to the export. For example New Zealand was overrunned by them. It was so bad, that assembly lines in New Zealand had to be closed. Quite a lot of used Japanese cars you can see in Ireland, too, sometimes also in Britain. There is also a big export to Russia. The japanese cars are (mostly) RHD, but the Russians don't care much about that. Mostly these cars are running in Siberia, but you can see them in Moscow, too. My friend told me, that some cars, which were stolen in Japan, wer brought to Russia, too, but the main "export market" for stolen ones is Cambodia. |
