Spiritual ancestor of the A3? |

A3 is a competitor of the Golf, and the Golf was/is a bigger model than the Polo (clone of the Audi 50). |

They were incredibly rare when they were new in the UK, it was simply a rebadged Polo Mk1, I doubt more than 1 or 2 are still exist here now! |

@chris40: yes @londonitalian: if there are some nice right-hand-drive Audi 50 on the market, please let me know. A friend of mine is a crazy Audi 50-freak, who wants to have a RHD in his colelction. |

Never sold in UK "The Audi 50 had a good following in continental Europe, but was never imported into the UK. A handful of privately-imported cars made their way over The Channel (Ford was even thought to be evaluating one for its Fiesta development programme), but the 50 stayed resolutely left-hand drive only." - http://www.polodriver.com/heritage/audi-50/ . |

You're correct. My friend Christian ( http://www.audi-50.de/ ) has confirmed the fact, that there never was a RHD-version. The biggest export markets for the Audi 50 were Italy and Sweden. There was no big export to outside Europe either, a few to Israel and some to the Francophone Middle and South America. |
