This special edition was called in Italy "Superstrada". I saw one in UK brand new British one in April 1979 but I can't recall the name, but the was "Super-something" written. |

^ April 79 in UK had Sunseeker edition based on GL with black bumpers - http://www.rootes-chrysler.co.uk/brochures/brochure-9574-a.html , plus Special based on GLS. Nothing specific as Super. |

YES !!! I meant that but I was stupidly remembering the word "Super" inside. You are super, dsl. Looking better this is in the same red like those Italian "Superstradas" and that UK one, but the side trim is the standard one. -- Last edit: 2014-05-21 18:54:55 |

That Sunseeker was called 1308 Swing in the Netherlands (also in Germany I think), but the car in this picture doesn't look like a special edition. |

The first one is not a Sunseeker for not having the black side window surroundings. |

These dark - dark grey and seems even black (in case of Spanish cars) bumpers were to meet in nearly every trim level - both in France and Spain. Curiously, despite few tries it is really hard to find any info about them. They aren't mentioned in the French extra options lists for example - despite the dark bumpers were for sure used in the same time - parallely - with the light grey ones. To find anything on the websites/forums dedicated to this model is also a hard task. It was possible to read on one Spanish forum, that they were related to the took over of the Euro Chrysleer by PSA. It can means they were used since 1978 (could be 1979 MY, like such cars are usually listed on our site). And indeed the oldest Spanish cars with black bumpers, which I was able to find among the google pics etc., date back to 1978. Even if one day it turns out that the model year 1979 isn't 100% accurate, then I'm sure it still won't be a big mistake. Matter of one year at most. -- Last edit: 2014-05-23 23:51:35 |

UK info no better. The April 79 Sunseeker edition was the first UK black bumper model, and later UK special editions also tended to be black bumper including Talbot period - it became a trademark for the specials. My memory is that Chrysler-badged normal editions were always grey bumper, also lower spec Talbots. But higher spec Talbot normals had black bumper plus all Talbot special editions, as did most/all UK Solaras - a grey bumper Solara looks odd to my eyes, and is probably not UK-made. |

Here for example is info that in French ones dark bumpers were the most typical for the GLS - possible, but even our site shows that not since beginning. Interesting - I think I've never seen Solara with light grey bumpers. -- Last edit: 2014-05-24 00:20:34 |

Grey bumper Solaras - /vehicle_296945-Talbot-Solara-C6-1983.html and maybe /vehicle_679140-Talbot-Solara-C6-1985.html . |

Ah yes, but I thought about such grey ones like in the 1970s Simcas (to me did not exist in Solaras, except the protos maybe) and in the mentioned 2 cases they tried to make them in body color. ![]() |
