I just had a quick check on Google (saw a couple of pics..but they were no longer available.!) Seems 'Scoiattolo' is Squirrel.! (100's of squirrel pics showed up in the search.! ) New make I believe.(..at least my Fiat guess was right, it was based on a 500) Thanks Junkman -- Last edit: 2006-12-05 11:01:57 |

The Make was Carrozzeria Savio of Turin, based on Fiat 600 D engine and floorpan and presented in 1966 at Turin M.S.,and the car wasn't the Scoiattolo(=squirrel, made while by Carrozzeria A.Perini--CAP--,but since 1969 and on Fiat 500 F engine/floorpan),but the Savio-Fiat 600 Jungla;but if Fiat will end the production of the car on which they was based in 1969,that was continued also later, using while Seat 600 E imported-by-Spain floorpans complete of engines that lasted it in production until 1973,when also the Spanish"donor-car" of its running gears was ended to be built. PS The Savio will realize a similar in style car also on Fiat 500 F engine/floorpan(the spare wheel was placed at front end in a recess appositely created for don't make protuding wheel/tyre shape excessively),but that, shown at 1967 or 1968 Turin M.S. and named Savio-Fiat 500 Albarella, don't cross the prototype stage and the project was aborted. |

The Scoiattolo had a vertical back panel, not canted like the Jungla(being movie was 1974,the car was already out of production) |

According to my car catalog for 1969, this car is listed as the Scoiattolo 500, complete with slanted rear panel, and being produced by Scoiattolo in Riva del Garda. The Savio you mention is listed in the same catalog, and, albeit similar, has various distinctive differences to this car. It has first of all a slightly longer overhang in the front, but most notable, it has 5 rectangular indents in the sills on each side. |

here differences thru Scoiattolo 500 and Jungla 600,almost similar(Scoiattolos had a hang-down front nose's bonnet cover,respect Junglas,but if style was so-similar) --That was a basic 1970 Scoiattolo 500: www.fiat500.ch/index.asp?page=2# --That was a Super Scoiattolo(126 engine): www.cincent.com/Auto_V/Scoiattolo_V.JPG --And that was a Savio Jungla 600: www.fiat600freunde.de/Typen/Bilder/jungla.jpg www.geocities.jp/tomosan2cv/image/jung06.gif -- Last edit: 2006-12-19 15:44:46 |
