I think so - A70 Hampshire/Hereford Countrymen had woodie paneling. I don't think we've had an A40 Somerset Countryman before ....

No, it's an A70 Hereford with body by Jensen, 1953: http://images.forum-auto.com/mesimages/197402/A70%20Jensen.jpg

Mmmmm - agree overall shape and window outlines very like Jensen. However rear wing line here is horizontal, but sloping in linked photo. Plus size looks shorter, and chrome sill strip here is shortened. Did Jensen A70 have different versions?? Or did Jensen do an A40 as well??

AFAIK Jensen didn't do an A40 (although they may have had a hand in the factory Countryman). For me the clincher is the grille:

A40 - Link to "www.classicandsportscar.ltd.uk"
It seems fairly clear to me that the car has the full-width secondary intake of the A70.

Absolutely an A70 Hereford, you can see the porthole below the A-post. Not so sure about Jensen, though, detail is different from linked photo. As a possible alternative, this may be the modification made by Frank P Grounds Ltd of Aston in Birmingham.

I accept that the window detail is not quite the same, but the pressed steel appears to match.

Agreed the Grounds picture looks closer to this one, so ID entered. Very interesting find. Seems based on A70 Pickup [BK3] for shape/size/rear wing profile - http://austincar.co.za/awoodie2info.htm - used by other coachbuilders as well.

Including Hawson, surprisingly. The pickup bodywork pressed steel was by Briggs Motor Bodies, one presumes that this may have stopped when Ford got established after the takeover.

But ..... now I've seen the Pickup shape, ours would be a perfect match for Jensen windows/cabin on the pickup sheet metal ......

There is a possibility that this would work, but it would be interesting to know where the weld lines were on the Jensen side pressings. Were the Jensen back doors pinched off the Vanguard?

Frank P Grounds info page here. He was also a rally driver with a flickr tribute album and this A105 Westminster on 1958 Alpine rally.

But no mention in my bible of British coachbuilders.
