Midland Red 5288 (5288 HA), an Alexander bodied Daimler Fleetline CRG6LX new in May 1963. Brand new at the time of filming! -- Last edit: 2014-08-11 00:36:02 |

Makes a pleasant change from the Routemaster that seems to be the most frequently seen bus in British films. At one time, the Red were allowed to enter Birmingham city centre, but could not pick up passengers once across the city boundary, so as their vehicles got nearer to Digbeth, they got emptier. Their fares were also higher, which didn't help. |

I grew up in Hall Green on south side of Brum, and can remember Midland Reds running on A34 (Stratford Rd), A441 (Pershore Rd) and A38 (Bristol Rd). I don't remember ever using one, but there were lots of bus-stops within city boundary on these routes - no idea about pick-up/set down regulations. |
