A shame, as it was the last handmade Mercedes except the 600. Generally a 1962+ W111 Coupé (narrow grille), but the wheels and hubcaps are the 1968+ version. According Wiki the facelift with the lower front came in 1969, so this is a 1968-only 220 SE or 250 SE. |

If I remember well there was written 220 SE. ...but I supposed the 250 SE coupè/cabriolet superseded the 220 SE and the latter were deleted at the end of 1965. In Itakly the 220 SE was not available after 1965 anyway. Maybe I was wrong about the production and availability in Germany. Can you confirm this for me, ingo ? -- Last edit: 2014-08-30 19:53:43 |

All the chrome trim seen on this car identify a 300 SE (W112). The steering wheel identifies a circa 1964-67 car, but the wheels look 14" with 1968+ wheelcovers. Several possibilities can occur here: a 1966+ 300 SE with later wheelcovers; a 1966+ 250 SE with 300 SE chrome trim and later wheelcovers; a 1964+ 220 SE with 300 SE chrome trim and 14" wheels (instead of the original 13") and later wheelcovers. |

@rpcm:  nice having you back!*nitpicking modus on* The first possibility is not possible. The pre-1968-wheels are annother size, that the flat 1968+ hubcaps cannot be mounted on them. So the car maust have also the (smaller) 1968- rims. |

Hi, Ingo! .gif ";)") The 1966+ cars (when the 250 SE was introduced to replace the 220 SE) received 14" wheels and it happened the same with the 300 SE that had the 13" wheels replaced by 14" ones. These wheelcovers were introduced with 1968+ models. |

When was the small Italian indicator introduced? Is it possible to interchange 13" and 14" wheels, and also between 250 and 280 wheels? That is, do they fit? There can be a lot of issues, i.e. size of the break callipers, possible change of turning circle... |

As I said in my first comment, I think the most plausible possibility (I'm not saying I'm sure) is that this is a 1966/67 300 SE (by the combination of the specific chrome trim, this steering wheel and what look like 14" wheels) with later wheelcovers. |
