 Correct me if I'm wrong but the J plate was issued between August 1, 1970-July 31, 1971.

 And the car is an 18/85S as it has the trim strip down the side.

This would have the engine in MGB standard of tune with higher CR twin SU carburettors and a different camshaft, plus twin pot callipers on the front brakes.
