Yes. I added a thumbnail to that page. |

I've never seen one in the US, so it must have been really rare. Can't believe they destroyed one instead of an Econoline, etc. Found a brochure listed on e-Bay. Looks like this one would be a Petit-Panel, since the Hi-Boy had the raised roof:![]() ![]() Link to "www.ebay.com" -- Last edit: 2014-10-01 19:22:12 |

/vehicle_295760-Renault-Estafette-800-R2132-1964.html Dynamike's comment says none ended up getting exported to the US though. |

Canadian brochure shows 4 versions that were offered there (and it seems they used the Estafette name): Panel, Hi-Boy, Pick-up, and Multi-Bus![]() Image source: http://lesrenaultdepapier.fr/estafette.htm |

So, Renault Estafette Panel? Or Renault Estafette Petit-Panel? |

Dynamike did not reference where he states that the van was never sold in the US. The ad that Kegare provided seems to indicate that there was a dealer in the US selling these vans (as does the link that Karoomay provided). The brochure that I linked was a US brochure. The name Estafette was not used on that brochure. For Canada, it would make more sense to use the French name. -- Last edit: 2014-10-01 20:02:24 |

I found it in a special edition of the French magazine Charge Utile (about old commercial vehicles). The text says: "At the end of the fifties, the Renault Dauphine makes its promising debutes in the USA, whole shiploads of the small car are exported over the ocean. Therefore it was totally logical that the Renault factory also planned to sell the Estafette over there. Its introduction was carefully planned and there were even several publicity ads issued. But alas, the Estafette never managed to get a type approval because of several technical aspects giving problems. The Renault factory couldn't solve these and the Estafette was never sold in the USA" The Estafette was sold in Canada (in very small numbers) with sealed beamed headlamps, though. ![]() ![]() |

That is a shame that this has to be destroyed. I think the scarcity of getting parts and its maintenance for such a rare car in our market. |

Maybe the production company got hold of one that was sent over to the US to get the type approval but was commissioned to be destroyed, since it never was approved? |

Was it really sold somewhere in North-America, in the end? I don't remember having seen "proof" that this name has ever been used. Previously we concluded that these ads were just projects, and those seen in USA were private imports... /vehicle.php?id=31914 /vehicle.php?id=6878 Or is it simply from Mexico? /vehicle.php?id=255848 /vehicle.php?id=295760 |

Found just one survivor in US but it could be a privet import as well.. http://kruzin.frenchboard.com/t3889p135-estafette-en-travaux |

In the comments they also say it is probably a Canadian model, because not sold in USA. |

Probably was one they got from a wrecking yard(And possibly, had already burned once already?),there was a lot of weird stuff exported here about that same time in very small numbers, and the Los Angeles area seemed to have quite a few dealers at one time that sold stuff like this? And of course, low numbers sold + no dealer support + no spare parts = something that gets scrapped pretty quick? (I've seen a 1969-ish Sunbeam Arrow in a small, old salvage yard (That no longer is there?) in Dallas years ago with 1972 plates....intact down to it's hubcaps! Just sitting there atop another car. Same guy had a Borgward and a 1957-59 Taunus 17m Turnier,it had '65 plates and was more 'stripped'?) -- Last edit: 2015-11-28 20:34:45 |
