 It was a Ford V8 Pilot, I think.

 Not a Pilot, the grille says 1937 to 1939 V-8 model 62.
Small 2227cc engine, curved grille, but similar body to Pilot which was a 1947 on model with an upright grille and the 3622cc engine.
