Triumph 1800, 1946 to 1948, 2000, 1949, or Renown 1949 to 1954. Changes were almost entirely under the bonnet with the substitution of the Vanguard engine for the old design Triumph units which were also used in the Jaguar 1 1/2 litre, when the car was given the name 2000 and it's not easy to call the exact model. -- Last edit: 2014-11-20 12:51:28 |

These are messy, but I think this one can be narrowed down a bit: Possibilities are [a] 1800 [TD] March 1946-Feb 1949, 3999 made. [b] 2000 [TDA] Feb-Sept 1949 only, 2000 made (approx). [c] Renown "Mk1" [TDB] Sept 49-Dec 51, 6501 made. [d] Renown Limousine [TDC] Jan-Oct 1952 only, 191 made. [e] Renown "Mk2" [TDC] Jan 1952-Dec 1954, 2609 made. So at general level, statistics favour a Renown (9000+) over 1800/2000. Apparently there are lots of detail differences between each version in sequence (so Owners Club say you can't mix and match body parts etc) but I can't find details of what they are, apart from [d] and [e] - the 1952+ Renown TDC versions - having a big bodywork change with a 3" longer wheelbase in the cabin (although this did not look recognisably different), plus push-button door handles, a scuttle vent, and a wider rear window (see Link to "www.simoncars.co.uk" compared to 4th thumb above - if you line up the window verticals against boot lines, there is a difference; so this is not a TDC). Other points - the 52+ Renowns (TDC) had a new dashboard with "Vanguard-type" instruments, which seem to be a horizontal display instead of previous round. Also 1800/2000 had old-style big headlights - Link to "www.simoncars.co.uk" - compared to all Renown having smaller spider's eye lights - Link to "www.simoncars.co.uk" There's also a reference that in Oct 50 within Renown Mk1 TDB sequence that instruments (still round at that point) changed from black-on-white to white-on-black, and that the radiator filler cap got a new motif. Renown Limo had internal division, otherwise same as Mk2. Nothing found to split 1800 and 2000. Summary of useful recognition points: - 1800/2000 visually identical, - Renown (all) - smaller headlights - Renown Mk2 and Limo - wider rear window, push-button door handles. If anyone can add to or contradict any of this, shout. So for this one, definitely not TDC (due to round instruments, narrow rear window) and big headlights exclude TDB early Renown, so 1800 or 2000. IDing as 1800 for production numbers (and to avoid losing it in 1960s 2000s). |

Here is a Triumph 1800 that was purchased new at Impéria: Link to "www.2dehands.be" I don't suppose they built them for the continental market? Maybe purely the importer. |
