Can someone tell me how I check a Volvo VIN with a VIN decoder. Always get error messages... |

I'm usually using this page http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/vin_200.shtml , which should be trustworthy. If the Volvo in question is of American descent, I find this page http://www.vlvworld.com/indexframe.html?VIN.html usful. |

Thank you, I found that after I asked. There are some online VIN decoders but they don't work for Volvo... The VIN number tells me that it is a Volvo 244 with B23A and M46 Gearbox |

If I remember this correctly (from a bouchure I've got), the fact that this Volvo has a M46 gearbox (a M45 with a Laycock de Normanville J type overdrive behind) and also chromed wheel embellishers, makes this a GL. The DL had a 4 speed M45 and no chromed wheel embellishers. -- Last edit: 2015-01-07 13:02:19 |

1983 Volvo changed 244 to 240 and discontinued using DL and GL. Which makes this a 240 B23A, a ex DL has the B21A engine. This wasn't popular with buyers so Volvo soon started using DL and GL agian. GL in the 1984 model year. |

It is however registered 1982-12-27 as VOLVO 244-812 |
