Was looking at the 1977 Ford brochure and it states that "vinyl insert body side moldings" were standard on the LTD, while the LTD Landau had "wide, color-keyed vinyl insert body side moldings". The brochure also states that a Custom 500 model was "available, but not illustrated". My period NADA book lists no Custom 500 models after 1976. Could they have been available after '76, but for fleet use only? Would that make the subject car actually a Custom 500? |

^Custom 500 models have a rear quarter panel badge. My understanding is that the 77/78 Custom 500 was only available in Canada. -- Last edit: 2015-01-13 16:02:47 |

Well, I'll supply this link to the 1977 brochure page in question: Link to "www.oldcarbrochures.com" Note under standard equipment, that the "Custom 500/LTD" section lists as standard, "Vinyl insert bodyside moldings", but it is followed by an asterisk, which indicates "LTD only", telling me it was not standard on the Custom 500 models. Also note the line "Custom 500 2 and 4-door Pillared Hardtops and Wagon models available but not illustrated". Normally, you don't see this in a brochure unless perhaps the models are only intended for fleet use. Your knowledgeable and insightful comments are welcomed! |

Yes that's the Canadian brochure; note the "Ford of Canada" after product changes. In the United States the Custom 500 model became a fleet only vehicle in 75 and 76. Following that a number of otherwise standard features such as body side moldings and hood ornaments became delete options for fleet buyers of the 77/78 LTD. As the car in question is missing a rear quarter panel badge and side moldings it must be a fleet 77/78 LTD. -- Last edit: 2015-01-13 19:14:40 |

Very good, Somename. Thanks. (Failed to notice that was a Canadian brochure.) |
