Carosserie Köng Basel was my first thought. A specialist for ambulances on U.S. car chassis in these times. |

Could this Köng (Köng or König?) have done the job for our other American ambulance too, Alessandro? -- Last edit: 2015-12-06 10:41:41 |

Hard to say. Correct Name is Walter Köng. There is very little information about this coachbuilder. At the end of the 20ies he was also working as designer for Packard and Chrysler in the USA, before he started his busines as coachbuilder in Switzerland. Here an other example of his work: -- Last edit: 2015-12-06 16:14:46 |

It's definitely not a coachwork by Walter Köng - simply not outlandish and cartoonish enough. I have a convincing theory, but can't prove it: This should be a coachwork by Carrosserie Ghia S.A., Aigle and Lugano, commonly referred to as "Ghia-Aigle", because it's not Carrozzeria Ghia SpA of Turin, Italy. The coachbuilder's handwriting seen here is very close to the 1955 Cadillac ambulance Ghia-Aigle once bodied. |
