Styled by Michelotti, was powered by same 3.5 Rover V-8 of Range Rover and P6 models, raised of bore to join 4.4 lt.cylinder capacity for challenge with Ford(AUS)Falcons and big Holdens on Australian market;get a troublesome life and was dismissed after 1975,'cause was a flop;Leyland AUS will develops also few coupè versions(named P76 Force 7)and experiments some Wagons, but was too much late to recovery sales rates after initial unsuccess,so the Wagon never went on market;was sold for a while also in UK,but also there no glory, were marketed almost for only one year, then UK sales were suspended.Today is a rare collectible car in Australia,'cause is a blend of Italian style mated with US-alike engine and body sizes. |

Engines were alloy. Anyone who has driven one will tell you they were far superior to any Holden Ford or Chrysler on the market. Poor build quality on release saw them labelled as P-38, only half as good as they should be, and later production problems (I believe the workers went on a lot of strikes about this time) saw them bring Leyland Australia down. Leyland crushed all but 10 of the 56 Force 7 coupes built to increase their value at auction. http://www.webtrade.com.au/p76/archives/Force7.htm One was sent to the Leyland Museum in England, and the other nine were auctioned off. A P-76 also won the Targa Florio stage of the World Cup Rally resulting in a limited edition P-76 Targa Florio. http://www.webtrade.com.au/p76/ A Sydney newspaper now awards the annual Golden P-76 awards to cars for outstanding mediocrity -- Last edit: 2007-01-06 22:53:06 |

That car was entirely made in Australia,so add into origin Country's field "made in AUS"with appropriate flag and remove"Union Jack"(only engine had British origins--Rover P6 3500 V8 derived--but was assembled in 4.4 lt. version in Australia only) |

The flag was set automatically because no country selected and "Leyland" make |

The Rover alloy V8 is actually an American BUICK design that they did not want to continue with & Rover has made it a Legend in the UK. My family over the passage of time has owned 3 P76's. Little brother is currently restoring one. I loved driving mine until my sister put it in a ditch. |

Interesting article in this week's Autocar on this subject. Shame we don't have any Nomads, Kimberleys and Tasmans. |

originally, but the leyland engineers tinkered and changed the design so much they basically ruined it (eg, he never designed that huge boot) |

This P76 might be either a Super or an Executive. Both models had dual headlights. |
