yes it's a 1923-1926 Model A. I don't think they really destroyed it because the price for such car was about $7000. For example new Model T cost less than $400 !! |

at least the front left fender was destroyed ![]() -- Last edit: 2007-01-13 23:52:07 |

Ratio is 17,5x the price. Now they can destroy in a movie a car that is worth 200 000 €, that would give a price of about 11 400 € for a "cheap" car (a normal price for a low-priced car). -- Last edit: 2007-01-14 00:04:02 |

I think the word 'destroyed' isn't always the correct term, espically with a car like the continental GT, is an easy fix compared to the likes of these http://www.mototechnique.com/Crash%20Repair.htm Also, it looks like some parts of the duesenberg were smashed, but could be fixed. |

Digging up an old message but that ratio is way off. That would give $122,500. 7000 dollars for the Duesenberg in 1923 is the equivalent of $85,000 now. http://www.westegg.com/inflation/ While people could buy a brand new Ford T for only $3000 in today's money. |

You misunderstood my message: the ratio that I mentioned was between an expensive & cheap car : $400 (Ford Model T) x 17.5 = $7000 (Duesenberg) I gave the example of modern movie where they destroy a 200 000 € car, compared to a cheap car ( 200 000 / 17.5 gives the price of a modern cheap car). But indeed both expensive and cheap cars are more expensive now than what they were at that time. |

Right, my mistake. I thought you were taking that factor to estimate the current price. |

Not the same car; line them up and you can spot the differences:![]() The wreck has a shorter wheelbase and the fenders don't match (Duesenberg's are thicker and the front is more curved), plus the driver's door is more rounded at the bottom right corner. The radiator shell is different as well - the Duesenberg has an inset radiator and the one on the wreck is flush. |
