1947-53 Chevrolet Advance Design |

1947-55 would be the accurate model years range of the Advance-Design truck line, but this one has the 1947-53 windshield and grille indeed. It doesn't seem to have the 1949+ fuel filler pipe behind the cab, so most certainly a 1947-48 model. Which means a Thriftmaster, such as light- (3100) and medium-duty (3600 and 3800) models were called in 1947 and 1948. Made on a chassis-cab, but, even if towing capacity is not related to payload, I'm not sure that it is a tow-truck. Or for really small vehicles only? It looks like being made on the shortest available wheelbase (116"/2.95 m), so a ½-ton model: as chassis-cab, it has a 3103 Chevrolet code. -- Last edit: 2015-03-31 02:08:40 |

I wrote this for future readers: Advance-Design trucks have had so many model years full range in the IMCDb (1948-54, 1947-54, 1948-52, early '50s...), leading to repetitive errors, that I feel now obliged to be more precise each time I see one ![]() Please note that I didn't question your identification. I also said: this one has the 1947-53 windshield and grille indeed. ![]() |

First MY for the advance design was 1948, as production begun in June 1947. And it can't be newer than 1950 as 1951+ models had vent windows. |

There is a 1947 model year and a 1948 one. All fans, experts and other interested people now acknowledge it. So please, Lateef, accept it as a 1947½ if you prefer, but don't change it again. By the way, and as already said, this truck can't be newer than 1948, as it don't have the fuel filler pipe behind the cab. All changes from 1947 to mid 1955 can be seen here. -- Last edit: 2015-03-31 21:23:20 |

Only if the late 1947 models are different from the 1948 models, otherwise I would still call the former 1948 models, given their mid-year introduction. Similarly, there are some who believe there is a 1964 MY Mustang or a 1975 MY Seville, given their introduction earlier those years. I believe the accounts you refer to are based upon similar cases. Also, this brochure announces "1947 presents a complete line for the new year", the "new year" would in this case refer to the coming year, 1948. |

There are differences between late 1947 and 1948 models, as noted by Timoth C. Lederman (maybe the person who made the most important work on Advance-Design trucks). There is also a 1947 "data sheet" different from the 1948 brochure. If you still don't agree with this 1947 model year, please try to see why www.pickuptrucks.com, howstuffworks.com, devestechnet or classicparts.com use 1947 as starting year, and how they explain the difference between the 1947 and 1948 MY. I'd like to cite Stovebolt.com too, but Timoth C. Lederman is part of these expert fans group, so the model years they refer to could be seen as subjective ones ![]() |
