The last version of the UAZ 69 you mentioned never went into production. This car looks more like a Willys Jeep CJ-6 with some modifications to make it look like a Soviet 4x4. Anyhow it must have been a lot easier to get a Jeep in Botswana. |

It could be a chinese Beijing Jeep. They were constructed with help from the russians around 1960. Today they´re a part of Daimler-Chrysler. |

Didn't the Beijing jeeps look like a copy of the UAZ for a long time? I think it could also be like with the truck in th Indiana Jones movie: they took a western model and modified it till it looked a little more russified. |

I'm not sure thats a modified Jeep CJ7, because the rear looks wrong, and I don't see why they would want to modify the rear. |

It is possible a Jeep CJ6 was striped to the chassis and a complete body made for it but it looks like a factory "something" we just don't know what yet. The hood is too flat. The headlights too low in the grille. Grille too far forward. The entire body line is incorrect for a Jeep based vehicle however the brain trust of this site has not identified it yet... Would be helpful to see a close up of the wheel & hub to see the wheel bolt pattern? |

Because this: /vehicle_13801-Jeep-CJ-6-1955.html A RHD CJ-6 which was claimed as made for South African market there. Presumably the same applies to this. I honestly think that if they were trying to make a CJ-6 look Soviet-ish, they would have just modified the grill and nothing more. But if they really did strip the body, I think that they would do a better job of makeing it look like a Soviet vehicle. I think that this is probably built from something completely different. |

On the one hand you argue if they were going to convert a Jeep they'd only change the grill. Then, after conceding that IF they did further modify one, you insist they didn't because they would've done a better job otherwise. That makes no sense. And why do you think the makers of a doofy comedy care about the authenticity of their "Russian" offroader? I'll meet you halfway say the filmmakers cared enough to modify the vehicle to make it look "foreign" in nature, but didn't care enough to bother making it look good. The wheelbase, door shape, and overall appearance are consistent with a CJ-6. The grille and sides have been modified. I think based on a BJ212. The horizontal grille slots, hood style, windshield forward tilt when down, angular door opening, body side stamping, and RHD all point to an early Beijing Jeep like the 212 of some sort. Only the enclosed front fender does not look like a BJ212. Maybe the fender was modified as were many US Jeeps, to contain mud and debris under the fender and prevent slinging onto the vehicle and occupants. It would not need to be made into a "Russian" offroader as it would already be a Russian offroader. Perhaps quite authentic? Hundreds of thousands were built so readily available. Modified CJ-6 still has my vote. It only passingly resembles the Beijing Jeep 212s I've seen and the body is too long. |
