I want to say 1981 but I dont know what that SS means. |

"SuperSport" I guess? According to http://www.escortfocus.com/html/history.html it was only for the 1982 model. |

This is the first one I've seen but yeah these were made before the Escort GT. I'm surprised Chevy didn't sue or anything. Strange... The Escort SS wagon was only made in 1981 but the Ford logo wasn't found on the Escort until 1982. http://www.edmunds.com/ford/escort/history.html |

GM did sue. That's why Ford dropped it. |

Although the fact that it's an SS wagon makes the model year clear enough, another clue that it's an '81 is the oval globe badge aft of the front wheel. The grille is unoriginal, but it simply screws on... |

I owned one of these for many years ('82-'89) than gave it to my dad who ran it into the ground in three years. Purchased the 1981 SS new (32 miles on it) in March 1982 in Boston, MA area. It was light silver with the red strips and red interior. It was the wagon and with auto tranny. Had major engine problems during the first few years that the Southern CA dealership replaced. No problems after that. I had license plates titled "SSIZZLE". This car also was available with blue strips and blue interior. The car in the picture had the optional wheels. Like this car, ours had flat black trim which looked even better went the windows were tinted dark. |

It is 1981, my parents had one just like it. SS was a model in line. Gave you blackout trim, grill and such. Aluminum wheels, bucket seats and console. Theirs was a 5 speed manual, rusted out faster than a salt truck! |

It's an AMC Concord that Raul mentions above. |

Oh, I was confused for the longest in why it was unlisted, guess the Escort's more rare than the Concord. |

well, before Hollywood heared it was a rare bird and then it must be wrecked of course... ( speaking about the Escort SS but i wouldn't mind the AMC either... ) About that Concord.. doesn't have a page and if the Escort gets 2 stars for crashing into it, it must have at least 2 stars too -- Last edit: 2021-08-16 00:09:15 |
