Described as 1925, but I can't directly date plate (except BW was Oxford series finishing by May 26) or trace other references. If 1925 tourer, should be [C]. First seen in old photo - our hero owbed it during WW2 posting and sold it in when he left in 1943 for £10. Now in 1956 it magically reappears (who says fairy stories can't happen?) and drives past -- Last edit: 2018-09-27 12:22:57 |

The pramhood 1925 Austin Chummy was bought for £50 in 1960, Used and owned by Daena Scott Pounds and reported back to Parents as to where the Austin had been seen. The aluminium Body was resprayed Yellow and thereafter known as the Yellow Peril. It's photo was also used on Greetings Cards. My Driving Test was taken and Passed in the Austin Chummy in Hayes ,Middx in 1961.During the test I was encouraged to go over 30 mph. The Emergency Stop when well as the car had now been fitted with Hydraulic Brakes. The Driving Tester was pleased to mention that he had been on the production line in Cowley when this model was first produced in 1925. The Car was used for the daily journey to Harrow Art College and was featured in the local paper when the rear wheel fell off! Holidays were taken in it in to Wales,South Coast and Somerset and the 1-4 Porlock hill was no problem, large road wheels. In Dunster,Somerset a replacement true windscreen glass was found a the Local Garage Loft. In Chichester Car Park a local policeman tried to push start us along the whole length of the Car Park...no joy. Eventually found that the Butterfly Valve in the carburettor was stuck...sorted. Artist Dexter Brown also entered the car in Speed trials and other events. The Chummy was eventually sold in the 1970's I have been unable to locate in on various web site apart from this one. Does anyone have further knowledge about it's life after 1970's,hope so. |
