I'd like to know where this "1966+ B-Series" idea comes from. The dedicated Wikipedia page seems to be full of errors (about the dates of some models, the origin of the chassis, etc.), and is apparently based on a single source which in fact already contains some errors but above all... never mentions this alleged 1966+ B-Series. So I hope it's not what is used as source in the IMCDb. • 1966 Chevrolet buses used the 1960-66 C-Series basis and have a S-Something code; • The 1966+ HM-Series, said (in Wikipedia) to be the basis of the first B-Series, has no wheelbase in common with the contemporary school bus chassis while the 1967-72 medium-duty C-Series shares 3 of them with it. Same number of matches for the 1973+ medium-duty C-Series and the 1973+ bus... • From what I saw in brochures, 1967+ Chevrolet bus chassis names are SS/SE-Something until 1979, when the B60 name appears for the first time. In my opinion, 1967-78 models should have the SS-Series name... I just hope someone knows how to differentiate these SS-Series buses from the 1979-84 B-Series ones as apparently only the name changed before the mid-1984 hood change -- Last edit: 2015-06-21 15:04:39 |

You must be reading something different than I am...The first paragraph of the Wikipedia page says The Chevrolet and GMC B-Series was a Class 7 medium duty cowled chassis produced by General Motors for the school bus industry. The B-Series was introduced for the 1966 model year... I was looking at my Chevrolet school bus brochures and in official GM literature it is called a B-Series (B-60 in the brochures from the 70's and 80's that I was looking at) Also due to the absence of side marker lamps on the hood, a 1967 model.... -- Last edit: 2015-06-21 18:37:51 |

Please be reassured, I read the same text as you do. I just don't see any source for these "statements". So from what I know of Wikipedia, this page could have been written by anyone, and with plenty of (apparently credible) craps just for the fun of misleading people. It's barely a joke: I knew some people for whom it was a challenge to do it just to see how long their stupidities will stay in line before being deleted More seriously, buses, medium- and heavy-trucks are the poor relations of vehicles knowledge: making a huge clean-up in some WP page would be a good thing... Anyway, when I read in this WP page: I wince in this very first sentence as the (sourced, this time ) link proposed for Class 7 clearly explains that it would make it a heavy-duty chassis... And when, just a few lines later, I come across this: ... I can hardly trust the rest of the article, all the more as this "key year" is used at least thrice as reference Just for the record, another inconsistency: GMC and Chevrolet used different basis for their 1966(?)-70 buses (and apparently not 1966-71, as noted in the WP page). So, if the GMC model was already a B-Series from the begining (despite the brochures saying SM-Series...), how could the products of the 2 makes have the same name, in total conflict with GM usual habits of that period (C/K-Series, HM-Series)? Ok for 1979+ documents. But please, give some clues: which brochures/documents for which model year, for the previous years? I know we're not here for encyclopedic knowledge, but we aim (or I hope that we at least try to) for accuracy. Could you provide at least one scan with a pre-1978 brochure or document mentioning this B-Series name? Use a private message on the forum for it, if you want to. Were the side makers mandatory on export models? If I'm not mistaken, the movie was shot in Egypt. (And if made before the 1968+ side markers, using WP as reference would give it a 1966 or 1967 model year (1966 Chevrolet school bus chassis // 1966 GMC model ⇒ both on a 1960-66 chassis...) -- Last edit: 2015-06-22 19:33:19 |

eLMeR...Upon reading your epistle...I will try to comply with your request..Make take a while...and how would I send you a scan?? It is my understanding that school buses are classified as medium duty vehicles (someone correct me if I am wrong) but I can't find anything in the brochure to prove it as of yet...I will keep looking.. Regardless of model designation at present, can you at least put the Blue Bird part up... |

No "auto-source", please. Some errors are sometimes made in identifications, and it can take some time to correct them. |

As said above, through the personal messages part of the forum. I'm Ok with the medium-duty range. Given the weight of 60 children, a heavy-duty chassis wouldn't be useful, I think. This is not the problem, I just wanted to show that the WP article contains errors (medium-duty and Class 7 can't be given together ) from the very start of it. What makes it specifically a Blue Bird body? |

I know buses..it is a Blue Bird...And no I am not being a smart ass...The 4-piece windshield as shown in the last thumbnail is one identifying characteristic... Also, could you please change this from a Blue Bird to a Thomas...Identifying characteristic is the wiper mounting...The thumbnail shows a Blue Bird, but the main pic is a Thomas.... /vehicle.php?id=824252 |

One thing I can tell from the main picture that is a Blue Bird body due to the flasher housing/position and the front roof styling above the windscreen. Does this help? Blue Bird body: /vehicle.php?id=779167 -- Last edit: 2015-06-23 19:11:54 |

1981-1983 because of the large heater air intake |
◊ 2015-06-28 05:12 |
... which, as 1979+ model, would indeed have make it a B-Series without a doubt. But: (1978 // 1982 brochure // 1984 one - the change of hood end took place in mid-1984 -- Click...) In order to avoid any misunderstanding (English is not my mother tongue): you're talking about the 2 "bars" in the grille which allow the air to go inside the engine compartment? Is there really a difference for the 1981-84 models? Where does your "large heater air intake" info come from? -- Last edit: 2015-06-28 05:13:38 |

It has the longer grille opening compare to the standard version for hot regional/country. |

eLMeR.. The 1978 brochure that you posted shows a Blue Bird bodied bus as well... Reclassify to single deck as school buses do not have luggage racks on the roof...... -- Last edit: 2015-07-04 05:48:47 |
