Is this a real Cobra or just a replica? |

Although it's very tricky, even impossible to separate "real" Cobras from official, semi-official "freestyle" repros/fakes etc., it's for sure a modern repro. |

My Dad worked for a concrete home construction company that was located right next door to Moon Equipment in Santa Fe Springs, CA. We watched them build the first Cobra there. We also saw the Mooneyes dragster and later the Potvin bodied Boonbeam sports car. I used to love it when they fired the cars up. I would walk over and stand nearby. AS a 12 year old it was a rush! I remember when they pushed one of their first attempts at the Cobra (maybe the first Cobra) out by the front gate and hung a For Sale sign on it. It was in sad shape. My dad looked at it and said "I wouldn't give you $500 for it". DOH!! That was a missed opportunity. Imagine what it would be worth today. If I had only taken photos!! |

This was a replica made at Shell Valley Industries in Platte Center Nebraska. I worked there at the time, and personally did all the body and paint work. There were seven made for this film. Only two were not destroyed for the crash scene. The one used for close-up shots was sold on eBay following production. |

The Shelby Cobras used in this movie were supposed to be driven by one of the goons in 2 Fast 2 Furious, but they got kicked to the curb and sent here instead. Source: https://youtu.be/KfTuTbnIbpc?si=qf43WpIJ-wG3PDuw (15:12 mark) -- Last edit: 2024-06-04 01:42:14 |
