Yes, this episode was about Jack Unterweger who was an Austrian serial killer responsible for the deaths of a least 12 women that he strangled in Austria, Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic), Germany and the United States from 1974 to 1992. He was arrested by agents from the US Marshalls Service's Miami Branch and was extradited to Los Angeles to face charges there and in deal between the Austrian Police, the Los Angeles Police and the Los Angeles County District Attorney Office, he was later then extradited back to Austria to face charges there. He committed suicide by hanging while in his cell at Graz-Karlau Prison in the 5th city district of Gries, City of Graz, Styria on the night of the 29th June 1994; the night after he was convicted. He had previously served 15 years in prison for the murder of Margaret Schäfer; a 18 year old German National that he strangled one night in December 1974 before being paroled in 1990. Unterweger's capture was a result of a joint effort between Austrian Police, FBI, LAPD and the US Marshalls Service. -- Last edit: 2019-09-15 12:17:33 |
