Unless a later re-import, a US model. Which means a 1952-57 model year. -- Last edit: 2015-11-01 20:20:52 |

This unit has the battery cowl cover and hinged grille of early production ('52-53?). |

Changed from M38A1 to M38 A1 to be found among its siblings |

Not sure how it is listed on the site but M38A1 w/o any spaces is correct. |

Written with a blank space, in the IMCDb. This was certainly done at first to allow finding them at the end of the list when searching for M38s. I don't say it's the good way to do, but the way it's done for now. Feel free to propose a better writing, naming conventions are not cast in stone. Anyway, it was the only one as M38A1, the blank space now allows to find it among the similar models. |

@ Elmer. Thank you for the quality research and time spent on a variety of vehicles. Understand naming conventions change. For 10 years I have posted these vehicles as M38A1. Perhaps an admin issue but if I were to propose a better writing it would be "M38A1" simply because that is correct and "M38 A1" is incorrect and incorrect by choice raises questions of validity. There is very little relationship between the M38 and the M38A1 so the need to find them at the end of a list seems insignificant to me. As stated before, for me the sight is for entertainment by recognizing a particular vehicle but should be accurate. |

Surely if they were listed without a space they'd appear at the end too? Astramax and Astravan come up in a search for Astra, as an example. |

The major point is here, I think. (Anyway, out of conformism, I always wrote "M38 A1" here.) |

Time to call for a mass renaming? @ 4x4peru: Don't worry, I'm just here for entertainment too. I'm sorry if my previous comment gave an impression of misunderstanding or of irritation: I was just explaining facts. Please remember that English is not my mother tongue, I may sometimes (often? Always? ) have difficulties to express myself correctly. |

The early 1952-53 M38A1s had the hinged grill...can't tell from this photo. The early models battery box cover was held in place by eight thunbscrews...The later ones had a strap with a latch. Again,I can't tell from this photo. Finally, a seam on the front fender is at a 45°angle on early A1s, later it was vertical. |
