Even worse - EW was July 91. My book is great as far as it goes but leaves lots of things unexplained in its 1.5 pages about HK plates (well if you're going to do every country in the world in 800 pages, it's never going to be the complete answer to everything ..). So I'm learning what it doesn't say; for instance we have a fair number of HK plates which are newer than the car - my guess is that if cars were resold secondhand, new plates were issued and the originals cancelled. There's also nothing about people being able to apply for personal combinations (or not). So could Mr Ernest Wong apply for EW 320 outside the date sequencing for his 1985 Merc 320?? I have absolutely no idea. There's also a couple of other Mercs in this film with plates older than the cars - again no explanation available. But - so far since I started using the book - this seems a much more unusual situation for HK. |

Did not spot that. But it does not affect the July 91 plate date. As far as I can tell for UK there was no RHD 500E or E500, only LHD - so very likely that same applied in HK, and as this is RHD car 500E/E500 can be excluded. UK 500E/E500 info is arrived March 91 as 500E; Oct 92 got airbags and anti-theft immobiliser; Aug 93 renamed E500 with some exterior trim changes, which included the 3-point star mount being moved from grille to bonnet (this one is on grille - 2nd thumb); Jan 96 only available to special order (which effectively means discontinued from showrooms) |
