An ultra-obvious Austin Mini |

It is so obvious that it is an Austin rather than another Mini? |

It's a Radford Mini de Ville by Harold Radford (Coachbuilders) Ltd. It can be identified by its specific chrome trim, the front doors quarterlights, the parking lamp between the door and the side window and also the Webasto sunroof. There was a long options list and even an hatchback version (de Ville GT). They had Cooper or Cooper S engines tuned by Downton and approximately 100 were built between 1963 and 1966, sometimes based in second-hand cars. They made a success in the swinging London of the sixties with people like George Harrison, for instance, who bought his then-girlfriend one and was the owner of this one. It was based on an Austin Cooper S MkI registered LGF695D (1966). -- Last edit: 2007-02-16 02:05:24 |

Beatles manager Brian Epstein’s company originally ordered four Minis – one for each band member – during 1965, with three from Radford and one with both Radford and Hooper modifications for Ringo including a hatchback so he could load his drums. This Austin was LGF 695D and Harrison's (as above) and is apparently still owned by his wife; Lennon's Austin was LGF 696D - /vehicle_320494-Radford-Mini-de-Ville-GT-ADO50-1966.html , http://maximummini.blogspot.com/2013/04/where-is-john-lennons-mini.html - seems to still survive, but status unconfirmed. Ringo's Austin Radford/Hooper hatch was LLO 836D (interestingly close to LLO 840D on McCartney's Aston Martin DB6) and was auctioned in 2017 for £102,300. ![]() ![]() McCartney's California Sage Green 1965 Morris (GGJ 382C) is apparently also seen in this film, although may only be a brief background appearance rather than obvious. Has ugly shrouded rear lights from Aston DB5, and went to US in 1970s and is being auctioned there next month. ![]() ![]() and has been modelled by Corgi Vanguards in 1:43 as VA02531 ![]() ![]() ... and by Corgi Collectables in 1:36 as CC82284K using their 1980s Rover Mini Cooper casting so a messy bodge-up ![]() ![]() -- Last edit: 2018-08-16 19:59:36 |
