Maybe a Hillman Minx ? |

Looking better I would say a circa 1958 Sunbeam Rapier convertible. |

Not a Rapier. The S1 was not available as convertible, although side trim was similar except for a downturn just before headlight. 1958 Rapier S2 had rear fins and side flash. That leaves Minx or Gazelle alternatives: Minx S1 and S2 did not have chrome side strip, Gazelle S1 could match, but not sure grille/bonnet is correct; S2 has different side trim. So a dead-end - except for this puzzling French Minx; as this is a French film as well, I think we may have unearthed a special trim for Minx S1/2 convertibles in France with sidestrips and possible two-tone colour schemes. |

The flash on the grille suggests to me a central higher part as in a Singer. What do you think about, dsl ? |

I'm still slightly uncertain because of the blur and the darkness, but I do not think the flash is high enough to be a Singer grille. I am also slightly puzzled by the strip visible down the bonnet centreline which was not a feature found on UK Minx convertibles (S1 or S2) or Gazelle S1. But I've now found another French Minx convertible which is definitely S2 and has both the side trim and the bonnet trim. So am fairly sure now that the French Minx S2 convertible was a special upgrade and that we have 3 of them in our collection, including this page. |
