There is a choice between three models when concerning this design: - Facel Vega Facellia - Facel Vega Facel III - Facel Vega Facel 6 The Facellia had a troublesome engine that was, as far as I understand, developed only for this model. That model was made from late 1959 until 1962 when it was replaced with a more reliable engine from the Volvo P 1800 which also changed its name to Facel III. Also a few cars fitted with a Austin Healey 3000 engine were built with the name Facel 6. In total there were some 1100 cars built with roughly the same numbers for the Facellia and the Facel III. Edit: Does the Facellia have a different rear end http://p8.storage.canalblog.com/85/23/568981/74286017.jpg ? If I understand this correctly, the Facel 6 always had spoke wheels as it had different brakes. If so I agree this is a Facel III only. -- Last edit: 2016-02-08 11:27:33 |

I can add bits of info from book sources: - photos of very early Facellia convertible (with 3246W75 plate which was 1952 issue so probably fake FV show plate) with the vertical rear lights - as Zodiac's link - plus the same shiny sill moulding below cabin, but without sun visors and has very small door handle. I assume this was pre-production launch car. - early Facellias had single front headlights until 1961 facelift which brought twin headlamps under shared lens, plus wood finish dashboard. It's probable that the shiny sill moulding disappeared at this point, but unconfirmed. One small photo of late Facellia convertible (a UK RHD) with twin headlamp front seems to show vertical rear lights in profile. - UK only got Facellias - these were spread across both early and late versions - Facel III added horizontal bars across the small side grilles at the front, and amongst other things got disc brakes. Nothing written found to to pin down whether rear lights changed at this point to round ones, but seems very likely from online picture evidence of Facel IIIs. - Facel 6 - only 26 made of which only 3 were convertibles. Wire wheels fitted as standard with brakes upgrade. Book photo of one of the convertibles (white or pale colour) has 3250W75 plate - again fake show plate. Most of that info doesn't help here, but wood dash and no chrome sills mean 61+, round rear lights seem only for Facel III or later, and Facel 6 can be excluded for wheels and probable extreme rarity. So I agree Facel III. |
