1973-only Sedan (elephant foots, old bumpers, smaller wings)

'78 by real plate. Last model year for sedan in the U.S.

Neither a borrower nor a lender be...

I suspect the plate belongs to another car, even if the lower rear end is in the shadows this can't be 1978 U.S spec.

I second @ingo's opinion.

There is no such as 1978 Volkswagen Sedan 'Beetle' sold in our market. Last one was export to our market from Germany in 1977.

Perhaps a Mexican version?

I have seen such Mexican Volkswagen Sedán 'Vocho' roaming around at my area before, I guess it might be the grey market that we have it here.

I've read that there was a trick Beetle enthusiasts used to to import cars from Mexico. They would buy a knackered old Beetle in the US, drive to Mexico and claim they were having the car restored there (cheaper than doing the work in the US), and "clone" the chassis number and license plates onto a younger Mexican Beetle.

A semi-intelligent idea, as the quality of the Mexican made Beetles was much worse than of the German made ones.

About the car here: surely a 1973-model, as a faked plate is an obviousness in movies.

Curiously, I don't see front fender mounted indicator here

@rjluna2: except in several US- and nearly all UK-productions, faked movie-plates are absolutely common.

But if it's really a 1978-car, why it's marked as "made for USA", but has the non-US-bumpers? :??:

Oops, '77 was last yr for sedan. Convertible only in '78 and '79.
