1970 year of debut in Japan(1st FWD car of Nissan'story);some non-confirmed sources say that in the development of 1st front-wheel-drive car of Nissan, was determinant the aid of Subaru(that had experienced already since 1966 in that field with the FF-1 and had signed a tech cooperation agree just with Nissan in 1968),for study how realize a FWD,re-using the same 988 cc. powerplant of 1966 Sunny[B10],but this time adapted with front traction for Cherry, placing it transversally, also to get a short bonnet) PS The at-the-time agree then, will ends to influence also small Subaru'styling:see in fact as the 1972 Rex resembles a sort of "shrinked" Cherry[E 10]in shape... -- Last edit: 2007-03-07 18:17:54 |

Being Wagon[WE 10]don't be called Cherry 100 A Break in France?... |
◊ 2007-03-06 21:06 |
You are right, they were called Break in France. I don't remember if they were introduced for 1972 or 1973 |

Once again with the help of "L'AUTOMOBILE", the Cherry 1000 Break was listed for 1973. |

Depending how was called in France the 1st Cherry imported;if was marketed as Datsun Cherry 1000 the sedan, obviously the wagon takes the name of Datsun Cherry 1000 Break PS On the site appears other two ones of that singular(in style)wagon version of Cherry;however, should be a shortlived version,'cause I had a 1973/1974 world cars annual and that model into Nissan range chapter is only quoted, but not illustrated;but,in any case, wasn't built over 1976 year,'cause I had seen on a 1977/1978 world car annual that the Datsun Cherry for that m.y.had got already another shape, now with 1974 F-II[F 10]nose and a lenghtened-like-a-van body that seems a cross thru a wagon and a coupè(that happens also'cause some Japanese Motor Makes in past keep in production still the wagons that have the design of the previous range with same name, especially when new-style saloon model don't had got new-style wagon variation and that late came built with the older design still) In end, that French-marketed Cherry wagon illustrated should be included thru 1974 to 1976 m.y. -- Last edit: 2007-03-07 18:21:23 |

Possibly they used older naming in the annual catalogue, the official '73 MY Datsun brochure called it "100A" already - more info with link . |
