We can't list all cars which are produced under licence in China with their original origin, if we will do this we should for example also change the origin of the old SEATs (for Italian) - it isn't especially good idea. |

Good question. There was the same for some Indian cars. Those Fiat-rebadged Seat should maybe be considered as Italian cars, but I guess that Spanish members would not agree with that |

Maybe we'd just need an extra info: orgine: xxx, made in: xxx and made for: xxx ? |

I'm not Spanish, but I also wouldn't agree for this (and really not only because of Polski Fiat ). I think it is a good idea, I've already written about it, but anyway even if we won't have this new fields I think that car like this one, all "licenced" cars with new make should have the flag (origin) of country in which they are produced. -- Last edit: 2007-03-11 19:35:49 |

There is also the Lada that are a rebadged Fiat "made in" is interesting only for local productions like this one. But a 3rd flag field is maybe too much. We could redefine what means "origin" (or just confirm it) : I think that originally Alexander's idea when we added this flag was that local-production cars that were quite independant from the original country were getting the flag of the local country. For example a Chevrolet/Geo Metro is just a rebadged Korean car of the same era, and also made in Korea, so it is still a Korean car. But the Chinese cars made under licence from older models of other makes do not have much in common with the original make. So when it is an old model "took over" (not sure of the word) by another maker, the origin of the model could be forgot... |

I think it is better to give a Chinese origin to Xialis than doing any changes in clones of Fiats, some new Vauxhalls/Opels etc. -- Last edit: 2007-03-12 21:45:52 |
