It waited long for 1st registration and year of manufacture is wrong or it is some nasty case. In 1983 HL had silver inserts in bumpers and side strips and it looks like they were added for 1983 already IN late 1982 because of this car for example: /vehicle_549514-Austin-Ambassador-LM19-1983.html (reg. in late 1982) In 1983 such all black bumpers were still in L trim level, but on the other hand "L" had silver strips below doors. Maybe they were changed later for black, but not before summer '83 judging by the brochure. -- Last edit: 2019-02-07 19:23:20 |

Registration RHV 12Y Make AUSTIN Model AMBASSADOR Description 1.7HL Chrome window surrounds and thin rubbing strip listed for HL but not L. But I'm getting some confused references for Sept 82 upgrades - not mentioned by Glass's, while CAP says HL got tints (+ rear wash/wipe and twin remote mirrors). However your link to this late 82 HL has no tints, although it does have newer black plastic wheel centre domes. RHV with Y was April 83 series, so first registration date seems accurate. So agree, this is probably a late registered after sitting around unloved for several months Jan-Sept 82 HL. |

Glad this can be explained this way and considered as 1982, as it really looks exactly like first year, 1982 HL. PS. The side strip became part of L-trim in/for 1983 - it is mentioned in '83 brochure, but it is mentioned in such way, which IMO suggests that earlier it was extra option anyway. The chrome window surrounds are present also in L already in 1982 brochure. Most notable external differences in 1982 had to be the black strip below doors in HL (silver in L) and all black sill in HL (in L not covered/not painted, so it was in body color). The wheels hubs were also different. |
