DKW was one of the brands of the Auto Union group, so I am not sure that Auto Union was really part of the full model name. Anyway it was for sure not a "Auto Union" model of the "DKW" brand as it was listed... I don't understand  ... it's obviously a DKW brand made by IMOSA Spain as Auto Union range, so "Auto Union" must appear either in the brand name, either in the model name (I suggested this second option)... I know the historical pre-war foudments of "Auto Union"...but in the late 50's/early 60's, this brand "Auto Union" was a reactived commercial "brand" or "range" of DKW.... |

I do not see why Auto Union should go in model name, as it is the name of the group owning DKW, not a brand of DKW: Auto Union was a joint venture of four German automobile manufacturers [...] The trademarks and company names of the member companies - Horch, Audi, DKW and Wanderer - were continued (Wikipedia). It is not because something is written on the car that it must especially go in the name of the car. And I am not sure that using a "DKW Auto Union" or "Auto Union DKW" make rather than just "DKW" would be right either, tought that it is probably much closer to the real name than the current "Auto Union" model name. -- Last edit: 2007-03-22 14:38:13 |

If I remember right, DKW choosed to change their name into Auto Union at the introduction of their 1000 Spezial (the 'Thunderbird-alike' coupé), thus creating a new image. They could do so, because in that time, the makes of Auto Union didn't exist anymore (even Horch trucks in the GDR had changed their name to Sachsenring in 1956). I've got an original folder (in dutch) presenting the make as "Auto Union-DKW", and the different models as "DKW F 11", "DKW F 12", "DKW F1 2 Roadster", "DKW F 102", "Auto Union 1000 Sp", "Auto Union-DKW 1 tons bestelwagen" (which is the van shown here) and Auto Union Munga Terreinwagen". |

Antoine, je connais l'histoire de DKW , regroupement de différents constructeurs allemands au milieu des années 30... il n'en demeure pas moins qu'au sortir de la guerre, toutes les marques du groupe disparurent exceptée DKW qui repris son nom d'origine... comme le dit DynaMike et comme j'ai tenté d'expliquer en anglais, en 1959 , DKW choisi de réactiver la marque Auto-Union à l'occasion de la sortie de la 1000 (limousine, Coupé et Spezial)... c'est ainsi que par ex. la DKW 3=6 devint DKW Auto Union 1000 (avec des modifs comme la calandre..etc...)...c'est pourquoi je pense que le nom générique de constructeur "Auto Union" et devenu un nom de modèle (voire de gamme) au sein de DKW ...d'où la nécessité de "parler" de DKW Auto Union F1000 .. A ce titre, les Auto Union 1000 qui sont sur le site devraient être à mon sens DKW Auto Union 1000, mais je crois qu'il y a eut d'autres avis de la part de nos amis allemands qui ont suggérés que l'on supprime le DKW (à l'instar de la marque Mini pour Austin/Morris).. |

Je veux bien qu'on appelle ça sous la marque Auto Union ou DKW Auto Union ou Auto Union DKW, mais je ne vois pas en quoi Auto Union serait un nom de modèle. DynaMike n'a pas dit que DKW avait fait un modèle "Auto Union", il a dit qu'ils avaient replacé leur nom par Auto Union pour la "1000 Spezial", et "Auto Union DKW" pour le van ci-dessus. Donc je maintiens ma position : c'est pas un nom de modèle et je n'ai rien trouvé comme source qui utilise un tel nom de modèle : toujours comme marque, éventuellement associée à DKW. Pour le F1000, je n'ai par contre rien trouvé où Auto Union entre dans le nom : juste DKW, mais vu le peu d'info à son sujet si tu veux on peut l'appeler Auto Union F 1000 ou même avec DKW + Auto Union dans la marque, mais je ne vois pas pourquoi on mettrait Auto Union comme modèle. -- Last edit: 2007-03-22 21:40:45 |

Dans "Toutes les voitures des années 60" René Bellu classe Auto Union comme un nom de modèle de la marque DKW qui reste sous ce nom jusqu'à son rachat par Volkswagen en 1965. VAG choisi alors de changer DKW pour Audi (une autre marque du groupe Auto Union réactivée à nouveau mais en tant que marque cette fois ci) Je ferais observer que durant cette période 1959/65 Auto Union ne s'est jamais appliquée que pour la 1000 (limousine, coupé , spézial) mais jamais pour les autres modèles telle que les Junior, F91, F11,F12,F102 ou Munga qui ont toujours portées la marque DKW sans "Auto Union" ...cqfd. Bon maintenant que l'on crée une marque "Auto Union DKW à coté de DKW ne me gêne nullement, mais je tenais néanmoins à préciser mes sources qui me paraissent à ce sujet tout à fait justes et cohérentes .gif ";)") |

Hrrmmphh, I cannot find the pic. One comment of andrepa, referring to vague childhood memories about cars, made me think about a pic, shot on one of the "car-free Sundays" in West Germany in late autumn 1973 (from the news, I only have unclear own memory-fragments). There you could see such an Auto Union F 1000-Van, converted to a horse cart. A special sight insofar, as this model wasn't really sold here, only in Spain. While searching the Net for that pic, I've found this one: http://www.von-zeit-zu-zeit.de/files/detail/698.jpg , worth to mention for several reasons a) nice car on the right  b) Kadett B LS -the authentic one- on the background c) a sporty Kadett B and a Granada Turnier for dsl d)  for the fuel prices (91 octane "Normal" for 0,38 €, 98 octane "Super" for 0,41 € |
