Described as Triumph's Belgian factory, assembling up to 300 cars per week. |

I guess this is in Seneffe. (assembly ended in 1981) |

Not sure. This page suggests Seneffe was BMC in 1960s, and 1967 film date was too early for Leyland merger, plus no BMC product visible anywhere. But Standard had Belgian assembly by Imperia at Nessonvaux since 1950s blobby Vanguards - http://www.standardmotorclub.org.uk/page511.html . Unclear when that stopped but commentary calls this the Standard-Triumph factory. |

Before 1975 there was also limited Triumph production at Malines, but Seneffe produced big quantities. (And I see Belgian rooftiles in the background so this should be it.) Link to "www.birminghampost.co.uk" |

I've come across Malines name before, but not really registered when/what. However "Standard Triumph Malines, Belgium.... The plant had the lowest warranty claims in the company and started by building CKD Herald 1200s and TR3As it had a superb paint shop. Alick Dick believed in the Common Market - as it was then called - and set the plant up to be part of it. Despite its efficiency and room for further expansion all planned in initially they (BL) shut it preferring Seneffe an ex-BMC plant which had the highest warranty claims in the group! Forward planning eh? Malines also built before closure, 2000s, maybe 2.5s, TRs, Spitfires, 1300s and few others for Benelux. Believe me it was a bloody lovely little plant with an incredibly efficient and loyal workforce." - from http://www.standardmotorclub.org.uk/page509.html ... and "Mechelen in Dutch = Malines in French" within http://www.standardmotorclub.org.uk/page510.html . Mechelen name also rings Triumph bells. |

It is Mechelen, I was saying Malines because the French name may sound more familiar abroad. "incredibly efficient and loyal workforce." you always hear that but it never makes a difference in the end, cost effectiveness is everything. -- Last edit: 2017-11-07 00:45:53 |

Cost-effectiveness and British Leyland were never happy companions. Recently came across very blunt account of BMC and Leyland merger that government forced the marriage because BMC was bankrupt and needed to be bailed out by profitable Leyland group (which included Triumph within its profit generators). The immediate task as the ripples subsided was to cut back on huge sprawling empire into something manageable, and lots of "good" bits got lost in the chaotic way this was implemented. |

My TR6 that I bought in Los Angeles and imported back to where I live in Belgium (Mechelen :-) ) was made in Mechelen. |
