a 1969 GTO. Tail lamp lenses on a LeMans/Tempest do not have the chrome bar dividing them in the middle. The rear quarter marker lamp is the GTO shield emblem. The car SHOULD have the hood scoop hood but these were replaced commonly when the hinges got rusty and the hood would bend in the middle. |

It has the scoops, but you have to look -<really>- close....angle & lighting make them "hide"? |

When that comment was posted, there was a less good picture of the car ![]() |

They were supposed to get a Mustang for this scene, but the owner backed out at the last moment. The director mentioned that the GTO is anachronistic for the time period of the scene. |

These scenes were shot on the island of St. Croix, in the United States Virgin Islands. This vehicle belongs to a local couple who live on the island. My step-father knows the couple very well. They have other vehicles, and occasionally drive this car, usually on weekends. |

Also, if you look click on G-MANN's thumbnail, you can see the 'GTO' decal next to Andy (Tim Robbins) left hand. |

Couldn't we just assume the scene in question jumped ahead to 1969, or even early 1968? |

This road is just not painted evenly at all. The double yellow line should be more to the right and centered with a white line on both sides instead of one. It's either no white lines or they are on both sides in the US. |

It’s a special road for drunk drivers, really a one-way road giving them lots of room, but they won’t know that... |

Another interesting fact; on St. Croix, the island this scene was filmed on, the cars are from the North American market. But it is still law/custom to drive on the left hand side of the road there. As the driver's on St. Croix tend to make their own rules, I'm sure Robbins was skeptical as to whether the production crew was able to keep the road closed for this scene, if they failed it would mean a car could come around that corner at highway speed, and already in Robbins' lane. How fun would that be? |

Looks like the front passenger seat is collapsed... |

Location: Link to "www.google.com" It is on the opposite side of the island from the final beach scene. -- Last edit: 2021-04-06 12:50:38 |

The film states He escaped in 1966.....How is He driving a '69 GTO? |

He escaped in 1966...that doesn’t mean that’s when he bought the GTO. It could have taken 2-1/2 to 3 years to get himself established, set up some hotel on a beach (like he talked about earlier to Red), bought his boat...and the car. |

I've really got to figure out if this car is still in the same hands. People were selling pieces of the tree from the film for several hundred dollars, so the car would be worth a small fortune, even without it's ties to the movie. Probably send it to Barrett Jackson and use the proceeds to buy a small island. |

This scene is definitely set in 1966, this is an anachronism (Frank Darabont admits it in the DVD commentary) |
