It is our first clearly identified Land-Rover V8 Stage 1 (1979-85). The 3.5 litre Rover V8 engine and permanent four-wheel-drive was installed in a 109" chassis and made it a very interesting vehicle, albeit quite thirsty! As there was no 88" version, except a prototype, the chassis length was not used in the name. The 'Stage 1' was actually just a first stage in modernising the LR range but stuck as an identifier to the V8 ever since. Thanks for the pictures, Jean-Marc. I had been waiting for the first V8! |

Nice to see this long wheel-base LR... my favourite, though I prefer the grill shape of the contemporary 4 Cylinder version ![]() |

My favourite, too. I also prefere the Series II with the inverted-T-grille and the lights in the middle. ![]() |

There were actually a handful of 88" Stage 1 V8s built for one of the Carribean islands (Jamaica I think), but that was a one off. If I remember correctly less than 10 of them were built and the confrimed that even the heavily restricted V8 producing just 91bhp was too much for the 88" chassis. |
