Looks like one of those Toyota-based Geo's. |

Origin - Japan, Made for US, as it's a rebadged Corolla. -- Last edit: 2007-04-03 04:11:44 |

It's not only made for the US, it's made IN THE US for the US and Canadaian markets and it's sold by a US brand! It uses GM parts such as a Delco radio that you would find in any eighties GM car, a GM/Harisson radiator and things like the seat fabric were also GM. Of course it has Japanese parts but would you badge a nineties Dodge Caravan as a Japanese car because it has a Mitsubishi engine? Or what would be a Jeep Cherokee like mine. It was built by AMC which was then owned by the French Renault and it used a mix of parts from everywhere in the world. The factory radio was made in Korea, the rear wiper motor was made in France, the injection/ignition systems were Renault and the transmission came from Japan (Toyota/Aisin Warner)... But since it was assembled in the US, I consider it an US vehicle (like most of us do!). And the mexican company VAM made the Cherokee in Mexico under license of AMC. I'd consider these as mexican products (which they are) rather than american. What are the origins of a Ford Ranger pick up or a Mazda B2000? Aren't they just as close as the Toyota Corolla and Chevy Nova/Prizm? /vehicle_28042-Ford-Ranger-1993.html /vehicle_46478-Mazda-B-2500-1998.html They share so many parts that they are covered by the same repair manual. ![]() This thing about vehicle origins is very confusing since everything is global now! To me, a Toyota Camry made in the US for the North American market is more american than a Chevrolet Optra made in Korea... An example of a car that is "made for" is the Toyota Cavalier. It's made in the US for the Japanese market. This one is MADE FOR Japan. I'd rather see "US/Japan" or "Japan/US" or "Japan/France/Korea/US" than "origin-Japan, made for the US"! |

It is designed/conceived as a japanese car, no? It is suppose to be the "spiritual" origin of the car, though that in some cases it does not mean much... Yes, that's why I am not sure that it was a so good idea to add that to the site finally ![]() |

Then, why the Mazda B2000 is considered on this site as a Japanese and the Ford Ranger is American? They are just as close parents as the Chevy Nova and Toyota Corolla are. Both are marketed under a US brand and a Japanese brand and both are sharing most of their parts. |

rebadged Toyota so the origin isn't USA. Should be Origin: Japan, Built in USA made for USA |
