Yeah...that was sad to watch such nice cars, to be destroyed. Why they didn't use something we just don't care, like a...Ford Taurus, Lincoln Town Car, Cadillac Seville STS, Chevrolet Caprice??? Why they have to destroy nice BMWs?! |

According to varaces.com (a link) these 3 cars are BMW's M5 -- Last edit: 2005-12-26 01:44:23 |

I am not sure that all their infos are accurate, since they list for example a Citroën XM for a 1978 movie or a BMW 740 in Taxi (2004) In this case, maybe they are M5, I do not know BMWs enough to decice. The font bumper does not look identical to a M5 neither a normal 5-series ![]() |

they could be just 540 with some special kit.. |

They are only 540s. Although the front spoilers resemble those of M5s, look at the side-view mirrors. On the M5s, the side-view mirrors are rounded off like those of the M3. Besides, I doubt the studio would pay 90K a pop to wreck M5s when good old 540s would do. |

And I guess that the 540s were enough for chasing a minivan ![]() |

minivan, but practical - I just loved the scene with both rear doors opened and guy stepping in and out through it ![]() |

They are not 540i and they certainly aren't M5s. They were just regular 528i with sport exhausts and a few mods. |
◊ 2006-09-10 02:17 |
why did they have to put the stipes on them? |

I hate this scene: this chase wasn't good and always these BMW can eat a minivan...they also 'ruined' the E39 with those stripes and sport aftermarket accessories, and then totally destroyed them. By the way these could not be neither a 540i or M5. They are 1997 American version, most probably the basical 528i. This was a real waste. |

No worries.. 528 or less ![]() ![]() |

You can most definately see that the exhaust comes down on one side, therefor these would be inline 6 cyl... Front lights are pre-facelift and therefor these cars are 528i or less... Exhaust comes together into one pipe, and are not dual 2,25" and therefor i've come to the conclusion that they are 523i or 520i... Good scene, exept for the fact that the cars become smashed... Also, the grilles on these cars are not the M grilles, and the mirrors are different... |

looks to be 2004 model maybe |

I actually care about the Seville. Maybe the 530i was the only thing available. Now I am not saying I prefer the Seville over the BMW, actually my feelings for them are quite equal, but it would have hurt just as much for me. |

Having owned a 2000 528i Sport, there are some easy ways to tell the difference. 1st, 1997-2000 was pre-facelift for the mid cycle 5 series. One major difference made in the 2001-2003 5 series were the rear tail light turn indicators were changed from yellow to white. These cars clearly have the older yellow tail light turn ndicators, as seen in the pictures near the bottom of this link: Link to "www.m5board.com" Secondly, the chrome trim around the side windows is black for the 528i sports and most 540s. This chrome is visible in this picture here, on the car on the far right, just above the side rearview mirror. Third, as for dual exhaust. Neither the 528 or 540 from this era had dual exhaust stock, both were singl exhaust systems. Conclusion: Obviously there are some mods done here to resemble the M5 or even a 540i. It is most likely a base 528i from 1997-2000 with body kit mods, grill mods, wheels, paint stripes (ugly ones at that)and exhaust. When the plan is to destroy a car that is 5-8 yrs old, movie companies often find ones with a salvage title and lots of miles to save some money. |
