This is actually a Ford Comete Monte Carlo, which is different compared with the "Normal" Comete that it has a grille with a grid pattern (instead of a beam) wire wheels (instead of disc with a hub cap covering the whole wheel) and a false air intake on the hood/bonnet. Most importantly though, it has a bigger engine (3,9 litres instead of 2,4 litres) giving it the top speed it clamed all the time. That is 90 mph (145 km/h). Apparently in a period test, and with 4 people, it only managed to do 128 km/h. That was claimed far too slow, especially for such an expensive car, and with additional tax on engines bigger than 2 litres. The body was not built by Ford, but by Facel Metallon in Paris. |
