No imdb entry, but was official promotional film for MG cars, produced by British Pathé in association with the Nuffield Organisation - http://www.britishpathe.com/video/safety-fast , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KBKgw5Cvz8 . Well worth a look because there's so much packed into it and the youtube version is unusually high quality.

Pathe claim it is a 1948 film but it has to be early 1950 onwards because of the MG TDs (launched Jan 50), the Riley RM manufacturing (which switched to Abingdon during 1949) and some other clues. But unlikely to be 1951 due to the use of 1939 footage of EX-135 instead of the 1951 Bonneville venture, and there is no hint in the commentary that Bonneville was imminent.

The race at the start is described as West Palm Beach, Florida - but no year given. It looks from http://www.racingsportscars.com/photo/Palm_Beach_Shores-1950-01-03-5341.html to be 1950 as most cars and numbers match - but that listing may have gaps/errors eg #62 looks like a Morgan onscreen.

 This bicycle at 00-41 (supposedly 1939 footage at Dessau) caused some fun while we pondered whether it was motorised or just a pedal bike with odd bits.

Looking twice at the "enlighten" version, I see 2 bikes near each other, which may explain the feeling of weirdness given by "this" bike?

 I don't know yet. It depends on the deliberations of the IMCDB Grand Committee's Working Group on the status of documentaries. I'd love to go ahead with exploring Pathe's rich and fertile resource (although I'm too computer illiterate to work out how to get rid of their onscreen logos and messages to enable decent clean captures, and their online screenings are - probably deliberately - low quality reproductions anyway). However if Pathe stuff appears on fully available DVD - as this one did - we stand a better chance of agreement.

Pathe also have a lot of excellent 50s/60s motorsport stuff (races and ... whisper it quietly .... rallies) and lots of Motor Show reports. So if the technical quality issues get resolved and there is a consensus for approval, we could unleash something pretty amazing.

In the meantime, I'm sticking to DVD-sourced stuff - going through some COI collections to see what I can mine successfully.

 In the form of a plea from the boondocks, the committee is asked to look kindly upon dsl's request to permit the inclusion of some documentaries of the type mentioned, if their provenance can be guaranteed. Apart from the fact that they provide a great deal of interest to the writer as a contributor of hopefully accurate identifications, they would also supply valuable variation from the sort of cheaply made 80s/90s films full of commercial placings of the same boring mass produced junk (both film and car) that we see on the database.

It has been good to see more European contributions to the database of late, long may it continue.

 Seconded , most of the Pathe motor films on You Tube are good quality with just a symbol in top right corner , and they are documentary films not adverts.
