Documentary by Gitta Gsell about Swiss Police photographer Arnold Odermatt (25 May 1925 − 19 June 2021. As a traffic policeman, Arnold Odermatt passionately photographed car accidents, his colleagues at work and his family on Sunday excursions. With a sober eye, he moved the scrap sculptures into the focus of his photographs. He staged everyday police work or his family just as brittle. This view of the essentials distinguishes his work. In 2001 Harald Szeemann exhibited the photos at the Biennale and thus helped the photographer Arnold Odermatt to achieve a worldwide breakthrough in the art scene. I bought in Paris in 2017 the book about this man and his pictures taken as a swiss policeman. Very beautiful. Some pictures seen here are not in the book but in it there are many others not see here. |
