Great acting , great story ( mainly true) , great cinematography , great music ( AC/DC, Noel Coward, Sham 69 , Benny Goodman, Black Sabbath , Arthur Askey and more 70s rock . punk and 40s music !) A fair stab at getting vehicles right . Shame about the post war American 6x6s as background but rest ok . Particularly replica SAS jeeps and LRDG Chevrolets I liked it. -- Last edit: 2022-12-17 23:37:11 |

I liked this too, JCB, and I tend not to like war stuff. I fell down the rabbit hole a bit after watching it and was reading about what happened to the real life versions of the main characters and it will be interesting where Series 2 picks things up. |

Being of 'that age' ie Peak Airfix with lots of uncles actually in WW2. Very interested in Ww2 history. Always interested in military soft skin vehicles too. So right up my street this including the controversial music. Good to see a good go at getting Commonwealth vehicles front and centre. After Dunkirk losses Britain would have struggled to wage war in the desert without the Canadian CMP trucks. I always thought there was a good buddy buddy, realistic warts and all movie to be made about Brits at war instead of the usual stiff upper lip, damn fine chap stereotypes. On the military forums it's marmite with people either hating or loving! Many seemingly not realising it is entertainment not documentary. I am sure there has been an explosion in WW2 SAS book sales! -- Last edit: 2022-12-18 09:00:02 |

I managed one episode. Not because of the preposterous soundtrack (it's from the creator of Peaky Blinders so I knew what to expect) but the characters were just impossible to root for. Yes, the real SAS instigators were mavericks, but the way they're portrayed here make them look like arrogant twats from the Bullingdon Club. The whole "I don't care about your rules, don't you know who I am ?" attitude, that sort of thing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullingdon_Club I prefer the BBC three-part docudrama from a few years ago, based on the book by Ben Macintyre. |

Stick with it Exiv, it does not really get going till half way through second episode. I found first episode hard work. -- Last edit: 2022-12-21 16:55:00 |
